RFC 6259 DTN Previous - Hop Insertion Block May 2011

چکیده

This document defines an extension block for use with the DelayTolerant Networking (DTN) Bundle Protocol. This Previous-Hop Insertion Block (PHIB) extension block is designed to be inserted by a forwarding node to provide the endpoint identifier (EID) of an endpoint of which the forwarding node is a member so that this EID may be conveyed to the next-hop receiving node. Knowledge of an EID of an endpoint of which a previous-hop node is a member may be required in some circumstances to support certain routing protocols (e.g., flood routing). If this EID cannot be provided by the convergence layer or other means, the PHIB defines the mechanism whereby the EID can be provided with the bundle. Each PHIB is always removed from the bundle by the receiving node so that its presence within the bundle is limited to exactly one hop. This document defines the format and processing of this PHIB. This document is a product of the Delay-Tolerant Networking Research Group and has been reviewed by that group. No objections to its publication as an RFC were raised.

RFC 6258 DTN Metadata Extension Block

This document defines an extension block that may be used with the Delay-Tolerant Networking (DTN) Bundle Protocol. This Metadata Extension Block is designed to carry additional information that DTN nodes can use to make processing decisions regarding bundles, such as deciding whether to store a bundle or determining to which nodes to forward a bundle. The metadata that is carried in a metadata...

TMHF: Transmit Max Hop First forwarding Strategy to Optimize the Performance of Epidemic Routing Protocol

Delay Tolerant Networks vary from conventional networks in that they have reserve constraints, unbalanced mixture traffic, data redundancy, network dynamics, and energy balance. Moreover due to node mobility DTN suffers from unpredictable connectivity and limited transmission duration. A mobile node in DTN routing may not be able to transmit all messages from its forwarding queue; therefore the...

An Empirical Performance Comparison of DTN Bundle Protocol Implementations

In recent years, Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) has received a lot of interest from the networking community. Today the Bundle Protocol (RFC 5050) is the standard communication protocol in DTNs and three major implementations are available. Since DTN is still a young research area, specifications as well as implementations have not yet reached the same state of maturity as e.g. TCP protocol st...

Energy-Efficient Internetworking with DTN

We claim that Delay-Tolerant Networking has the potential to form an internetworking overlay that shapes traffic in a manner that exploits the capacity of last hop wireless channels and allows for energy-efficient internetworking. We demonstrate DTN potential for energy-efficient internetworking through an overlay-architecture and a tool we have developed that captures the required state transi...
